Sayyid al-Istighfar – Master supplication for forgiveness

O Allah! You are my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and I am faithful to my covenant and my promise as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess to You all my sins. So I entreat You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins except You.[sahih al-Bukhari; 8,75,318, at-Tirmidhi; 3393, an-Nasa’i; 5522, Ahmad; 16662]

Shaddad ibn Aws (radiAllahu anhu) relates that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said that he (Sayyid al-Istighfar) most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is to say (the above du’a). That “If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.”

    Jazakkallahu khairan ya akhi.

I came to know this dua few months back.
This is such great dua because when i read it, i declare the oneness of Allah (azza wajalla) and who am i in front of him.

    I sole dependent on him.
    Complete Submission..!

May Allah (azza wajalla) lead us all to straight path.

    Thanks,
    Hussain Badusha.

During this time of Ramadan, there is nothing stronger than dihkr and the recitation of the Qur’an, first and foremost. Because Ramadan is the month of the Qur’an. This month we should work to reform that link between ourselves and the Qur’an and hence the link between ourselves and our Creator. Because Allah says that ‘When my slave asks about me, I am near.’ SubhanAllah, when we ask, not if, Allah knows we need Him and if we try to live our lives without Him it only hurts us. The All Powerful and Creator of everything does not need us. To deny the existence of Him is only to our own disadvantage. So, think about your purpose deeply, wonder about life thoughtfully and do not waste the time that is given to you. We are beings of mistakes and forgetfulness, that is why humans are called “insaan” in Arabic. Then why not just ask forgiveness, what does any of us have to lose?

  15. Alhamdulillah. Great dua…after reading this dual please make sure you strongly and sincerely believe in its contents not simply reading it. Insha’ALLAH SWT, we shall get the benefit Bis iznillah. Jazakumullah khairan.
